Crossing to Corsica
The Île de Beauté is a classic target from the French Mediterranean coast. A magnificent crossing, where the mistral and the libeccio call the tune.
Distances and duration
Depending on your port of departure (from the Côte d'Azur or the eastern Gulf of Lion), the northern tip of Corsica (Cap Corse) lies roughly between 100 and 180 miles away, or about 18 to 32 hours at 5–6 knots. Here too, plan on at least one night at sea.

Winds to watch
- Mistral: often a favorable wind toward the south-east, but quickly kicks up a rough sea offshore when it's strong.
- Libeccio (SW): a frequent strong wind in the Corsica Channel and around the island, big seas — treat it with respect.
- Accelerations around Cap Corse: a well-known funnelling effect and local over-strength.
Cap Corse watch: the wind and sea often strengthen there. Allow extra margin on the northern approach to the island.

A moderate mistral (15–20 knots) settling in for 24–36 h, no libeccio forecast, sea below 1.5–2 m: set out to enjoy a fast downwind leg, keeping margin on the approach to Cap Corse.
